In collaboration between AFCAC, the McGill Institute of Air and Space Law and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), a Capacity Building Workshop on Drafting, Revising and Implementing Competition Regulations in Air Transport Services in Africa, will be held in Kampala, Uganda, the 6, 7 and 8 May 2026.
The overall objective of the capacity building workshop is to enhance the legal and economic capacity of Member States and RECs to draft, revise, and effectively implement competition regulations in the air transport sector, in line with YD Annex 5.
The specific objectives are to:
- Strengthen participants’ understanding of the legal and economic foundations of competition regulation in air transport;
- Build practical skills for drafting and revising national and regional competition regulations aligned with YD Annex 5;
- Enhance knowledge on institutional arrangements, enforcement mechanisms, and cooperation frameworks under the African competition architecture;
- Promote a common interpretation and application of Annex 5 across Member States and RECs; and
- Foster peer learning and exchange of best practices among African aviation and competition experts.
