The sensitisation workshop "Uniform Aviation Laws in the EAC: Legal, Safety, and Security Frameworks", was held in Munyonyo, Uganda, on 20 - 21 March 2025.
The workshop was carried out by European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in partnership with CASSOA and McGill Institute of Air and Space Law, and was financed by the EU-funded project “The Operationalisation of the SAATM – Support to AFCAC”.
Bringing together legal delegates from Civil Aviation Authorities and Ministries of Transport across Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania, alongside aviation experts from the EAC Secretariat and CASSOA, the workshop fostered crucial discussions on legal and institutional frameworks, best practices, and mechanisms to support Africa’s emerging aviation sector. It kicked off with welcome remarks from the Uganda Ministry of Transport presented by Mr. Aggrey Tumusiime and a Keynote from Eng. Richard Gatete the Executive Director EAC–CASSOA.
The workshop provided an opportunity for legal experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders to engage in a comprehensive dialogue on the future of aviation regulation in the EAC. The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of legal experts from the Partner States who oversee the development and implementation of regional aviation legislation. The workshop focused on developing uniform air laws for East African Community (EAC) partner states.
